Many of us have started families when the craze for social media and smartphone evolve immensely. This new way to connect with family members, friends old and new was a joy, a delightful convenience that we had never felt before. Love at first sight!
As we realize that social media was not going anywhere, and our connection to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, YouTube, etc … was not an easy disconnect; In fact it only grew, and face-to-face time is decreasing.
Going to a coffee shop is a drag, and it does not make it easier that I was raised in France and really understand what it is to have a coffee with friends, family ,colleagues, or alone… Please, don’t fuss about the statement… You probably have not gone to France and enjoyed a coffee at a terrace.
Back to social media and how it is destroying our social lives… How ironic… But, in my humble opinion, it is true.
Have a beverage in a coffee shop and see the average consumer with others and literally staring at their screen probably reading messages and updates from friends. What??? It is disorienting to witness such behaviors because it feels so inhuman… So unnatural!
I am always profoundly touched when I sit and realized what is happening. I have children, young children, who may grow up with a very different notion of what face to face mean… I can’t began to imagine what it will be like for them to make friends and what that means.
