#3 Blog: Part I – The Best Social Media Resource You May Be Missing

Like many social media managers, it’s constantly a challenge to come up with new and engaging online content. You could outsource and hire a freelancer, but why when you have an almost unending abundance of resources all around you.

In a recent Facebook post, I noted that some of the best social media marketing content ideas come from all around you. Even better, it’s free. I’m talking about your employees. They know your brand and company intimately. There is no one better to speak to your brand then those that are involved in its daily evolution.

Here are several tips on how to make employee-generated content work for your businesses social media strategy:

  1. Don’t try to force a style or “voice.”

People want to engage with real people. Your employees are also customers of other brands. You will find because they are “real” people, they connect with other real people ask your customers.

  1. Don’t limit the playing field

Don’t simply let the hire ups communicate. Open-up the conversation to other departments. “Different people have different interest.”  The more variety of people who participate, the better chances you will have of connecting with different audiences.

  1. Be gentle with editing.

As the Social Media manager, you should have the final look at all content before it’s posted. However, be gentle when editing the work your employees submit. You have asked for their opinions and perspective. Show respect by protecting their message and you’ll continue to get more great content.

  1. Highlight and promote individual authors.

Give your employees recognition for their work. Display their names, titles, and photos. Giving them greater visibility and you’ll find they’ll continue to provide you with great content.

  1. Ask authors to tie their social accounts to the content marketing platform.

Have your employees connect their personal accounts to your Social Media accounts. This builds your personal connection with others and exposes your brand to others you would otherwise not have connected with.
